Quarterback Corner!

We're looking forward to seeing all QBs together next Thursday, September 9th! In an effort to prepare the space and ensure we're adhering to district guidelines of keeping individuals at least three feet apart, QBs will opt into to the location that best fits individual need. Select your location by completing this QB Huddle Attendance Form here no later than Friday, September 3rd at 12:00PM. Regardless of location, please plan to fully engage for the duration of the huddle as we'll be preparing for design studio and team design excursions!

This webinar is designed for campus leaders and is open to anyone!  Attendees will need to register in advance here (Note: Zoom will give you the option to add to your calendar after you register).
Design Studio | September 30th 8:30-4:00 PM
This month's Design Studio will be two part! The morning workshop [9:00-11:30 AM] will be for principals, QBs, and other leadership team team members and focused specifically on PL implementation on your campus. After lunch, our first design excursion workshop [1:00-4:00 PM] will officially launch with your selected teams (QBs will submit and prepare for this during the September 9th QB Huddle).

QBs, please ensure that your teams are aware of times and are ready to participate for the morning and/or afternoon workshop(s). Final location information will be shared with teams no later than Tuesday, September 14th.

MAP Testing for Kindergarten
The PL Department has purchased the BOY and MOY Math and Reading MAP assessments for all PL campuses to have access for use. While the district does not require Kindergarten students to be tested during BOY and MOY, we know many of you use this assessment to personalize. We strongly recommend you use this resource throughout the year.
Note: If you're a MIZ campus, this assessment is required for math at all levels. If you're a RBL grant campus, this is required for any kindergarten pilot teacher.

Principal Opportunity
Compass-in-Leadership Cohort from Valor Collegiate

This opportunity is designed for principals and comes  from our friends at Valor Collegiate. The school is well known for strong SEL practices integrated throughout the day for both students and staff.

Our goal with the leadership cohort is to combat the isolation school leaders often feel in their roles while supporting their own adaptive growth, believing that this investment will infuse our schools with leaders who are centered, balanced, and sustained in their incredibly complex roles.  Over the course of the two-year cohort, school leaders will be encouraged to challenge their limiting beliefs + mindsets, they’ll learn to manage the cycles of toxic stress that often lead to burnout and a short leadership tenure, and will be engaging in relationship development with a group of like-minded leaders from across the country.

Learn more and apply by checking on the Compass-in-Leadership Program Overview.

If you have any questions about this opportunity, reach out to Kristen at [email protected]. And, if you apply- let Kristen know!

Welcome to the March edition of the PL Lighthouse!
This monthly email blast and webpage has been designed to serve much like a lighthouse, to serve as a way forward and help in navigating through the busy school year. Nothing else speaks of safety in the face of adversity and challenge quite like the lighthouse.
QB Huddle
The quarterback huddle has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 10th, from 1:00-2:30 PM on Zoom. Our topics will still be the PL Leader and Assessment and Data.

Quarterback pre-work:
  • At the huddle this month, we’ll be doing some work around the Enneagram! The Enneagram is based on 9 basic personality types and helps to clearly describe why you think, feel, and behave the way you do (and really so much more).  If you are familiar with the Enneagram and know your number, great! If you don’t, please take this quiz. It takes about 10-12 minutes and you want to answer on first reaction (some say to answer as you would’ve in your early 20’s).  Note: You'll need to enter your email to receive your results!
1:1 Quarterback March Check Ins
After Spring Break, we'll schedule 1:1 check ins with your PL coach. During this month's check in, we'll chat about your leadership goal and prep for the upcoming design studio in April.

Action Items
1. Sign up for a 30 minute time-slot (starting March 22nd) with your PL coach by clicking their name:
  • Nicolette
  • Mike
  • Lily
  • Kristen

Innovation in Teaching Fellowship
We are excited to announce the Innovation in Teaching Fellowship, a professional learning opportunity to expand personalized learning instructional practices across Dallas ISD, is beginning to recruit teachers for our sixth cohort of fellows, and since you work closely with teachers, we’re hoping you might be able to help with the recruitment process.

The Innovation in Teaching Fellowship equips Dallas ISD educators to grow in their understanding of and pilot Next Generation models in their classrooms. Over the 2021-2022 school year, fellows will draw from research, best practices, and their own ingenuity to design and test personalized learning in their classrooms. Fellows will have access to virtual workshops, pop-up (i.e., on-demand) professional development sessions,  and coaching from the Dallas ISD central personalized learning team. At the conclusion of the fellowship, fellows will have an opportunity to share their learnings and ideas with the education community through our Innovation Showcase.

Please feel free to pass along to other schools within your network or nominate 3-5 teachers on your campus who might be ready for the challenge. Please click here to access a quick nomination form or to share use, bit.ly/nominatefellows. Once a teacher has been nominated, he/she will receive an email regarding the opportunity, application, and deadline.

Welcome to the February edition of the PL Lighthouse!
This monthly email blast and webpage has been designed to serve much like a lighthouse, to serve as a way forward and help in navigating through the busy school year. Nothing else speaks of safety in the face of adversity and challenge quite like the lighthouse.
Picture
The PL Lightbulb is turning 7 this month!
On February 20, 2014, the first message went out district-wide asking for school leaders to embrace personalized learning and to join the inaugural personalized learning cohort! Join us for a PL birthday celebration with events throughout the week of February 15-19th and the official designation for February 20th as #PLday.
February PL Quarterback Huddle
The February Quarterback Huddle is Thursday, February 18th from 1:00-2:30 PM on Zoom. Our topics this month are the PL Leader and Assessment and Data.

Fall Campus Support Visit Teacher Survey
If your campus participated in a campus support visit this fall, our team is reaching out to the teachers who were visited to provide feedback on their perceptions of the visit. No action is needed on your part, the PL team member who observed the teacher will email directly. If you have any questions, please reach out to your PL coach.

PL Camping Trip Acadia | Assessment + Data

Our third camping trip exploring ASSESSMENT + DATA kicks off today, February 1st! The QB checklist includes base messaging for you to adjust to build hype and excitement about the opportunity. You'll also find the one-pager with directions for enrolling in Schoology and an optional planning template. If your teachers have already enrolled in the course, they won't need to again.
As your teachers begin their trip, the phase of Assessment + Data they select will appear under your school's tab on the Phase Selection Form. This is a great way to check in with teachers on their progress and to guide coaching support for this month.

New Tool Alert: Community Resource Explorer (CRE).
The CRE visualizes what assets and needs exist within a two-mile radius of every Dallas ISD neighborhood campus across five categories of indicators: Education, Health, Family, Community, and Economics. In a nutshell, the CRE was designed as a diagnostic data tool to help educators, nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and residents identify and address very specific needs in neighborhoods around Dallas. There are three main components to the CRE: a
map view, a feeder pattern view, and individual school profiles (see example here).
